For two weekends in October members of the OGA helped the Halton Region Conservation Authority with their Fall Into Nature events. OGA members manned a Geocaching table. Members of the public came buy and asked questions about geocaching. About half of the people that stopped by had heard of geocaching before and a few had even tried it. Sundays for the busiest days with nearly 75 people stopping by the table at Mountsberg and Kelso conservation areas. Demos were provided which provides some light entertainment. Caches were hidden and participants when looking for them. Most were successful but a few needed a bit of help. We didn't want them getting too frustrated on their first attempt. The look of satisfaction on the faces of the searchers was very rewarding. After doing one of the trial caches several people asked if there were more they could do. I think they were hooked! In addition to helping the public discover geocaching this was also an opportunity to reach out to the Halton Region Conservation Authority to build some goodwill. Cordial relations between conservation authorities is essential to ensuring that we will all have the opportunity to geocache in these wonderful conservation areas. (emzernask placed a cache during Fall Into Nature and it was recently published Mountsberg Reservoir Observation Tower 4.5/2) |
