This month we had our first tie for Cacher of the Month and I think that all five nominees deserve recognition. So in alphabetical order here are the nominees for this months award.

It was tough to decide how to determine the winner so we allowed each of the nominees to vote on who they felt should win. The winner chosen by their peers for February was Bent & Twisted.

February: Bent & Twisted

Bent & Twisted are the "Series 'R' Us" cachers of Ontario. I doubt that there are too many cachers who have not come across a Bent & Twisted cache in their travels in the southern half of Ontario. Having placed 127 caches they have covered a lot of ground. Some of the memorable series that Bent & Twisted have given us are, Park or Paddle, The Falls Tour, Roadside Series, TCT Caledon, The Falls Tour North. Just to give you an idea of the number of caches that Bent & Twisted have placed here's a map of their caches.

My personal thanks to Bent & Twisted for the Roadside Series, it broke up many a montonous drive back and forth from up north and took me to some out of the way gems.

Q and A with Bent & Twisted

Q: Where do you call home?

A:Chesley Ontario

Q: Where does the name Bent & Twisted come from?

A:We originally started out caching seperately as "Kismet" and Ztuart. While we were hiding the second "Falls Tour" we were planting the cache for " The Tree" which is located between Snow and Silver Creek Falls and when Stuart tossed the cache out into the open and it was not detectable we just looked at each other and simultaneously said… Now that is Bent & Twisted and that is how the team name became.

Apparently, from some of our cache logs it has been noted that several people feel real Bent and Twisted after trying to find some of our caches. So I guess the name is appropriate.

Q: When you are not caching, what do you do? (work and/or relax?)

A:Stuart is a Nuclear Operator at Bruce Power and Kristine is a Management Consultant at Deloitte & Touche.
Relaxing?????? Not sure what that is anymore but when we can we like to chase waterfalls.

Q: How did you find out about geocaching?

A:Kristine (Twisted) was introduced to geocaching by a friend and then immediately took Stuart (Bent) out to find her second cache.

Q:What gear do you use for caching?

A:Garmin e-Trex Legends at the moment but looking to upgrade. Of course for our hides, camoflauged duct tape which is apparently detectable with flashlights, so we have found an even better material out there to mask the containers with that the flashlights don't pick up easily.

Q:Tell us some of your caching milestones. (First, most memorable etc.)

A:First cache and first date… Inglis Falls II by J.A.R.S. We spent close to half an hour walking all over those rocks till Stuart at his great towering height says hey are we looking for glad plastic packs?

Q:What are your favourite caches?

A:Traditional caches and ones that give you a hike and some great scenery. Trout Hollow by Star2004, Mono Cliffs by Coupar Angus and of course really creative cache hides like Puddlemaster's new one - No Tools Required. Pure evil and wish we had thought of it.

Q: Any recent highlights you would like to share?

A:Any recent highlights you would like to share? We got Married on Canada Day 2005. Stuart just finished getting his License for being a Nuclear Operator.
Kristine canoed the Yukon river this summer and planted two caches in the Whitehorse, Yukon area and met a great fellow cacher and now friend whom is doing the maintenance on them for us.

Q: Any thoughts on caching you would like to share?

A:The statement made by Parks Canada calling geocachers "Eco-thugs" really struck home with us (we had archived the Falls Tour final long before this due to environmental sensitivity of the area). So now we have decided to come up with a new series of caches that are even more Bent and Twisted then we normally do but that are not damaging to the environment.
